Phillips 66 Gas Company Round Tin Sign
In 1927, a gasoline company did a test drive on Route 66 using their newly developed gasoline. During the test drive the vehicle reached a cruising speed of 66 mph. Because of Route 66 and the (very fast!) cruising speed of 66, the new fuel was named Phillips 66.
